Almost mid January!

Time flies, I would say when you're having fun but it also seems to fly when you've got your nose to the grindstone and work is coming from more places than you have time to do or places to store!  If I was working for myself I would be extremely happy with the amount of work I had to do.  However, working for the NHS and it's blame culture it's starting to make me twitchy.

How many secretary's should you have per Consultant, now normally you would say 1, I'm the secretary and now have 5 Consultants to look after, oh I do have a support secretary, she thinks supporting me is doing the typing and sending in things wrong which I then have to do again before it causes a mess, hmm and passing on to me simple things like making an appointment, or pieces of paper which need filing, I wonder sometimes who is the support!!  But that's not all, oh no, because 'I can do' I am given to do, so now on top of 5 Consultants, I am also in charge of reducing the backlog waiting list, organising extra clinics, getting them set up, filling them etc etc etc, and if that isn't enough (that takes me most of my 5 days a week, just the backlog!) I also have 3 people from a PCT to organise, train and assist for audit purposes!  ARGHHHHHHH.

I know I'm organised, I know I pick things up quick, but at the moment I feel like a rubber band that has been stretched so far that I'm starting to fray at the edges, I'm noticing small mistakes, quick enough to put right but mistakes anyway, I don't DO mistakes, it's making me nervous.  "Absorb" is the NHS catch word, I'm not a damn sponge, or a towel, I'm already made from mostly water I CANNOT "absorb" any more.  Oh and by the way Mrs Manager I need you to help me with typing issues and the Jr Secs, oh yes of course, you do a standard operating procedure, you roll it out, you moan about it and monitor it and we won't bother putting capability in place to help you in any way, just give you more work to do.

Ok moan over!  I'm off to keep looking for other jobs, preferably in the private sector where I can still do but actually get paid the money I'm actually worth instead of being dumped on.
